Artist of the Month for June is Nora Chorover

Nora Chorover has been absorbed in art since early childhood. Her most important artistic
influence is her mother, Beatrice Chorover, whose paintings are infused with gesture and
emotion. Nora studied painting with Catherine Kehoe at Massachusetts College of Art and
Kelly Milukas of Milukas studio in Tiverton, Rhode Island. In the last two years she has been
immersed in plein air painting and has learned a great deal from painting and studying with
other artists. Her work balances movement and vitality with clarity and structure. To intensify
the impact of her paintings, she designs with depth, gesture, and contrast and seeks to
eliminate unnecessary elements. Her limited palette allows her to confidently explore color
relationships while maintaining harmony throughout the painting. Brushwork is used both to
suggest movement and direct visual emphasis. She is energized by painting outdoors and
experiencing the light, color, and expansive atmosphere of the south coast environment.
