Databases for Patron Use

The library offers free access to many databases to our patrons. Below is a compiled list of online databases and links that you can access from the library network or your own home. If you need help, or have questions about these or other databases, please visit the library where staff can assist you.

Ocean State Libraries

Search for and order books, audio, movies, and more available throughout the state’s public libraries. Log-in using your card (or username) and PIN number to check on your checked-out items, holds, and pay fines.

Ocean State Libraries — Encore

Looking for a more interactive search function for the library catalog? Apply multiple filters to your search in real time with this updated version of the classic Ocean State Libraries catalog. Typical account features are still available (create lists, check on holds and borrowed items, pay fines, etc.)

eZone Digital Downloads

Log-in with your Ocean State Library card to browse, check out, and download tons of books and audio, and stream movies and CDs. Read and listen to books from your computer, or download content to your e-reader, smartphone, tablets, and other App-ready devices.


AskRI is a comprehenisve database of other search engines included but not limited to Ebscohost, World Book, Homework Help Center, Heritage Quest, Mango Languages and Novelist. You can access AskRI from the Ocean State Library homepage, or clicking the link to the left.

Small State, Big History

A website dedicated to the vast history of the smallest state in the US. Created by Christian McBurney, author of such books as Spies in Revolutionary Rhode Island and The Rhode Island Campaign, this site offers a growing number of short articles about our special state. Dozens of contributing authors work with McBurney to offer you this ‘Online Review of Rhode Island History’.

This Is Who We Were

Doing research on the American people during a certain decade? Make ‘This is Who We Were” one of your stops for information. Find information from the census, economic reports, personal profiles and more to build a complete view of the way life in America was in the early 1900s, or from the point of view of inventors, immigrants, and more. Available databases includ: 1910s, 1920s, 1950s, 1960s, and Working Americans.
