End of Summer @ the Library 2018 Pizza Party!

Participants and families of the summer reading program are welcome to join us for pizza, cookies, and drinks as we celebrate our youngsters for participating in Summer @ the Library 2018!

We will also raffle off the musical prizes for those who completed the game sheet, and kids can pick up a free book to take home for a job well done!

Storyteller Joe Theroux–Wednesday, August 1st at 6pm

Storyteller Joe Theroux presents a collection of stories about humanity’s universal language: music! A young violinist is the only one who can save the world from the Sea King’s dreadful dancing. A greedy turtle uses his quick wit to trick all of the birds of the forest into becoming rappers . . . but why? Joe uses his trademark character-driven and high-energy style to bring this collection of humorous adapted folktales to life for all ages.

Bwana Iguana Reptile Adventure Wednesday, July 25th at 6pm

Bwana Iguana Reptile Adventure is a fast-paced, hands-on show that brings the audience into the mysterious world of reptiles. Ray Ward’s unbridled enthusiasm and quick wit keep everyone engaged and on the edge of their seats. Not only is the presentation educational, it is loads of fun and entertaining as well!

Reverse Engineer Instruments on Wednesday, July 18th @ 6pm

Join us as Rhode Island Museum of Science and Art presents Reverse Engineer Instruments!

How are instruments made? How do they create different sounds? Children will explore sound, 3D construction, and music through the creation of their own working instruments. They will then “Rock” Out and create improvisational music.

Discovering Great Artists with Mrs. McNeil–Tuesdays in July!

Come learn about the great artists throughout history and create your own masterpiece! Lead by Claudia McNeil, these free workshops use household materials to create works of art inspired by famous artists.

Summer @ the Library 2018 begins June 18th!

This year’s summer reading program, Summer @ the Library 2018, begins Monday, June 18th with registration inside the library. The theme this year is Libraries Rock! Kids and tweens can complete a game board for prizes and enter to win a larger musically-themed prize at the end of the program.

We will also welcome a fun variety of entertainers and educators to amuse, educate, and delight audiences of all ages!

Register Now for May’s Fly Tying & Fly Fishing Workshop

Brownell Library and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Division of Fish and Wildlife, are hosting a FREE fly tying and fly fishing event.

Participants will learn to make their own fresh water flies over several weeks then have the opportunity to fish using the flies they created in a private fly fishing event.

Classes occur on Wednesday, May 9th, 23rd, & 30th from 6-8pm. The fishing event is on Sunday, June 10th at 10am.

This course is geared towards novice and experienced fly tiers alike, and is open to all ages 10 and up. Material will be provided, but feel free to bring your own!
