Friends of the Brownell Library Annual Book Sale

The Friends of the Brownell Library will hold their annual book sale Saturday, August 4th, 9am-3pm. The sale will be located on the back patio under the tents. Admission is free, so be sure to stop by and stock up on your summer reading.

We are no longer accepting donations for the book sale.

Volunteers Needed!

If you would like to help set up or work at the book sale, especially moving books the Friday beforehand, please contact Dee Holliday at (401) 635-2384. Community service hours available if needed.

Please Note: The library building will be closed all day during the sale.

Bwana Iguana Reptile Adventure Wednesday, July 25th at 6pm

Bwana Iguana Reptile Adventure is a fast-paced, hands-on show that brings the audience into the mysterious world of reptiles. Ray Ward’s unbridled enthusiasm and quick wit keep everyone engaged and on the edge of their seats. Not only is the presentation educational, it is loads of fun and entertaining as well!

Reverse Engineer Instruments on Wednesday, July 18th @ 6pm

Join us as Rhode Island Museum of Science and Art presents Reverse Engineer Instruments!

How are instruments made? How do they create different sounds? Children will explore sound, 3D construction, and music through the creation of their own working instruments. They will then “Rock” Out and create improvisational music.

Join us for Lola and Polynesian Fusion!

We welcome Lola with Polynesian Fusion for a fun evening of song and dance!

In this program, we will focus on music and dance from the islands of Hawaii and Tahiti. We will talk about various aspects of Polynesian culture, in terms that children can understand, and then we will sing and dance together as a group! Moana movie fans are especially encouraged to attend!

Discovering Great Artists with Mrs. McNeil–Tuesdays in July!

Come learn about the great artists throughout history and create your own masterpiece! Lead by Claudia McNeil, these free workshops use household materials to create works of art inspired by famous artists.

Summer Reading Program Kickoff with Circus Dynamics!

Join us on Wednesday, June 27th at 6pm for Circus Dynamics!

Maurice of Circus Dynamics performs a vaudevillian styled Juggling and Balloon variety show. Come and witness gravity defying juggling, amazing balloon sculpting, a little balloon magic, and lots of laughs.
After the performance Maurice will teach a balloon twisting workshop where kids can learn to make their own balloon dog.

Summer @ the Library 2018 begins June 18th!

This year’s summer reading program, Summer @ the Library 2018, begins Monday, June 18th with registration inside the library. The theme this year is Libraries Rock! Kids and tweens can complete a game board for prizes and enter to win a larger musically-themed prize at the end of the program.

We will also welcome a fun variety of entertainers and educators to amuse, educate, and delight audiences of all ages!

Register Now for May’s Fly Tying & Fly Fishing Workshop

Brownell Library and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Division of Fish and Wildlife, are hosting a FREE fly tying and fly fishing event.

Participants will learn to make their own fresh water flies over several weeks then have the opportunity to fish using the flies they created in a private fly fishing event.

Classes occur on Wednesday, May 9th, 23rd, & 30th from 6-8pm. The fishing event is on Sunday, June 10th at 10am.

This course is geared towards novice and experienced fly tiers alike, and is open to all ages 10 and up. Material will be provided, but feel free to bring your own!

Freshwater Fishing Season is here! Rent a rod from the library

Fishing season has begun here in the state, so what better time to stop by the library and take out one of our freshwater (or saltwater) fishing rods and tackle boxes for a week?

To obtain a fishing license, follow the instruction on the RI DEM website:

http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/managementservices/licenses/fishing-licenses.php

Once you’ve gotten your RI fishing license, come to the library, borrow a pole, and start catching your dinner. Please contact the library for loan terms and conditions.
