Friends of the Brownell Library Annual Book Sale: Saturday, August 5th, 9am-3pm

The Friends of the Brownell Library will hold their annual book sale Saturday, August 5th, 9am-3pm. The sale will be located on the back patio. Admission is free, so be sure to stop by and stock up on your summer reading.

Book Donations

Donations of books in good condition are gratefully accepted year-round at the Brownell Library for the sale. Please no textbooks, encyclopedias, or VHS. For more information call the library at (401) 635-8562.

Volunteers Needed!

If you would like to help set up or work at the book sale, especially moving books the Friday beforehand, please contact Dee Holliday at (401) 635-2384. Community service hours available if needed.

Please Note: The library building will be closed all day during the sale.

Poetry Night

The Wednesday Night Book Club group will be celebrating Poetry Month in April. Bring your favorite poem to share with the group. The night is expected to be filled with inspiring pieces and dialogue about this wonderful form of written (and spoken) word.

Movie Night, Tuesday, March 24 at 5 PM

Join us for a screening of the movie The Hundred-Foot Journey. The movie is a wonderful dramedy about a feud between two adjacent restaurants, one operated by a newly relocated Indian family and the other by a Michelin-starred chef.

Pizza will be offered at 5pm to those who RSVP. Movie will begin at 5:30, all welcome RSVPs appreciated for set up.

Diane Edgecomb, author of A Fire in My Heart: Kurdish Tales, will perform “One Thousand Doorways: Journey Among the Kurds of Turkey.” Ms. Edgecomb’s chance meeting with a young Kurdish refugee set her on a path of danger and discovery as she searched for the lost stories of an oppressed culture. Singer Bobbi Carrey along with Doug Hammer on keyboard joins us to present “Between the Wars: Music from 1981-1941”. This performance will explore American life and culture from the “square” rhythms of 1918 to the hot Charleston rhythms of the 20s, then on into the “Golden Years” of the 30s, where we discover swing and follow it to the smooth, powerful sound of the early 40s.
